Nano brows, also known as feathering or machine hair strokes, is an advanced technique used to create realistic hair-like strokes in the skin to create the look of a fuller eyebrow.
WHAT ARE NANO BROWS?
Nano brows is the latest innovation in creating hair-like stroke eyebrow tattoos. While the method isn't entirely new, this latest technique is much more gentle to the skin, causing less trauma and producing the most natural looking results.
HOW ARE NANO BROWS DONE?
Nano Brows are created using an electric permanent makeup device and often just a single needle to tattoo hair-like strokes in the skin.

NANO BROWS VS MICROBLADING
Nano brows and microblading are both cosmetic tattoo techniques to create hair strokes in the skin. However, the similarities end here. The following outline the many differences between these two procedures.
Type of Tool Used
While microblading uses a manual tool with a blade made of needles to cut the skin to deposit pigment, the nano brow technique uses a traditional permanent makeup device with (often) a single needle to puncture tiny holes in the skin to insert pigment. The latter technique causes less trauma to the skin than cutting with a blade.
Appearance
When healed, nano hair-strokes appear softer than microbladed strokes. A skilled artist can create strokes with different thicknesses and colour saturation using the nano brow technique which results in a more realistic look.
Ideal for a Wider range of Skin Types
While microblading is limited to those with normal (non-oily, not dry or thin) skin for optimum results, it is possible to do nano brows on clients with combination skin, thinner skin, and dry skin. Final results are determined by many factors however, including the type of skin, after care and lifestyle choices.
With Nano Brows, more artistic control is possible, allowing the use
of multiple colours, saturation, and thickness of strokes to mimic the
natural appearance of hair strokes.
Less Trauma Faster Healing Time
As the nano brow technique is quite gentle, the skin endures less trauma and therefore heals quicker.

WHAT IS NANO BLADING?
Nano blading is NOT the same as nano brows, as confusing as it may seem. It refers to the same technique as microblading but with ultra-fine needles, around 0.18mm in diameter. While this technique initially produces beautiful super fine hair-like results, once healed, the strokes may last about 6 months before disappearing (either entirely or resulting in patchiness) due to the insubstantial amount of pigment inserted. Some clients find this appealing and are willing to maintain frequent touch ups (every 6 months) in order to have very thin strokes, however, this method is not sustainable as there is only a limited amount of times the same area can be cut with a blade before visible scarring occurs.
NANO BROWS VS POWDER BROWS
While both are very popular techniques that use the same machine and similar needles to create the eyebrow, the look is entirely different. A Powder Brow involves shading the eyebrows to achieve a soft, powdered makeup look. Nano brows, on the other hand, focus on creating individual strokes for a hair-like effect. The choice between the two techniques depends on the client's preference and desired outcome – whether they want a more textured look (nano brows) or a subtle, shaded appearance (powder brows).
COMBINATION NANO AND POWDER BROWS
This option is versatile and suitable for so many clients. Often a client will want more definition along the bottom of her brows to create a polished look that opens up the eyes, while still having some hairstrokes where they have bald or sparse patches of hair.

THE NANO BROWS HEALING PROCESS
Client's brows before.
Immediately after Nano Brow service. The strokes will darken and thicken over the next couple of days. This is due to the body's healing process.
Healed Nano Brows after 8 weeks. The top layer of skin flakes off between days 5-10, taking with it some pigment. The remaining pigment is seen through new skin. An initial follow up appointment is always neccessary.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR NANO BROWS?
The ideal client should have:

Normal skin types

Dehydrated skin is ok, but dry skin that tears easily is not an candidate for any type of eyebrow tattoo

Can work for moderately oily skin as well, however, the strokes may blur more and fade quicker

Healthy skin free of any blemishes, flaking, active chronic conditions such as psoriasis and rosacea

Never had a previous eyebrow tattoo work
DOES IT HURT?
The level of discomfort varies from person to person, however this technique is quite gentle and many clients report feeling very ‘relaxed’ during the procedure. Topical numbing agents are used during the treatment and mild discomfort is often felt towards the end of the appointment.
WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE?
After getting nano brows, the healing process is like any other eyebrow tattoo treatment. The brows may appear slightly darker initially, but this will fade as the skin heals. If there is any redness, it will subside within a day or two. There will be flaking off the top layer of skin, taking pigment with it. Once the flaking/peeling is complete the brows may appear very light. At this time, you can apply some brow makeup if you wish. Colour will gradually re-appear again over the following several weeks. It's essential to follow aftercare instructions provided by the technician, which typically include avoiding excessive moisture and sun exposure during the initial healing period.
A perfection visit usually takes place 8 weeks after the initial appointment to touch up any light spots. With nano brows, sometimes a 2nd perfection visit may be necessary especially for oilier skin types or light coloured brows.
HOW LONG DO NANO BROWS LAST?
All eyebrow tattoos, including nano brows, will fade over time. On average, they can last anywhere from one to three years, depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Touch-up sessions are required to maintain the desired look.
CAN I GET NANO BROWS IF I HAVE A PREVIOUS EYEBROW TATTOO?
This is dependent on the existing tattoo's color and condition. Hair-strokes show up best with there is negative space in-between the strokes, so untouched virgin skin will have the best results. However it is still possible to achieve beautiful nano brows on previous tattooed powder brows provided the remaining colour in the skin is light and has faded approximately 80%.
